our Lineage
The Jangter (Northern Treasures) lineage is an important tradition of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, founded in the 14th century by the great tertön Rigdzin Gödem. Through the revelation of sacred treasure teachings concealed by Guru Padmasambhava for future generations, this lineage preserves profound tantric methods, ritual cycles, and Dzogchen instructions leading to the direct realization of the mind’s true nature. Transmitted through successive lineage holders and rooted historically at Dorje Drak Monastery, the Northern Treasures tradition continues to flourish today as a living stream of spiritual practice dedicated to the benefit of all beings.
Dordrak Gyalsay Rinpoche
His Holiness Dordrak Gyalsay Rinpoche is the throne holder of Dorje Drak Monastery, one of the principal seats of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. As a lineage holder of the Northern Treasures tradition, he is responsible for preserving and transmitting its teachings, guiding monastic and lay communities, and supporting the continuity and flourishing of this ancient spiritual lineage.
H.H Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche
His Holiness Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche was one of the most revered masters of the Nyingma tradition and became the principal holder of the Northern Treasures (Jangter) lineage through his profound learning, spiritual accomplishment, and unwavering dedication to preserving its transmissions. Recognized for his leadership and wisdom, he played a vital role in safeguarding and spreading the teachings of the Northern Treasures in the modern era. He was also the grandfather of the present Dor Drak Gyalsay Rinpoche, continuing a living family and spiritual connection to the lineage he so carefully upheld.
Project
Dorje Drak Gyalsay Rinpoche is currently undertaking the restoration of a once-neglected temple in Punakha, Bhutan, with the vision of establishing it as a vibrant centre for the Northern Treasures (Jangter) lineage. Through this meaningful effort, he seeks to preserve and strengthen the living tradition, while continuing the compassionate work and spiritual legacy of his grandfather, His Holiness Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche.
